Yoga Teacher Certification
​We are happy to announce that the Department of Dance will be offering a 200-hour yoga teacher certification program beginning in the fall of 2018. After completing 5 yoga-specific courses, as well as the required courses DANC 345: Dance Kinesiology and DANC 350: Creative Teaching Methods, you will be able to register with Yoga Alliance as a registered yoga teacher at the 200-hour level (RYT 200). The program is on a 2-year calendar with new admittance beginning in the odd-year fall semesters.

200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification Syllabus
University of Illinois Department of Dance
General Outline: This 200 hour teacher training course will provide you with the basic understanding of yoga asana, yoga philosophy, teaching skills and knowledge of human anatomy to safely and effectively teach yoga. The course combines two of the courses required for the BFA in Dance with additional courses specific to the study of yoga. Between these various courses you will be prepared to teach yoga as well as eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 200.
The coursework will be divided into five educational categories: Techniques, Training and Practice, Teaching Methodology, Anatomy and Physiology, Yoga Philosophy/Ethics/Lifestyle, and Practicum. In order to fulfill the hours listed in each category below, you will be required to successfully complete (with a minimum grade of “C”) the following courses in the Dance Department:
DANC 301: Yoga Fundamentals (1 credit hour, taken twice)
DANC 302: Intermediate Asana Study (1 credit hour)
DANC 303: Yoga Teacher Training (3 credit hours)
DANC 404: Teacher Training Practicum (2 credit hours)
DANC 345: Dance Kinesiology (3 credit hours)
DANC 350: Creative Teaching Methods (3 credit hours)
Total credit hours: 14
In order to defray some of the costs for offering this program, students may be charged a nominal fee of $200. In addition to this one-time fee, students will have to pay an additional registration fee to Yoga Alliance should they choose to become registered teachers.
